Mindfulness is the act of maintaining moment-by-moment awareness of your experience – particularly the sensations of breathing. Across many meditation and yoga disciplines, focusing on the breath is the most fundamental skill because you always have your breath to pay attention to and it gives unique benefits to the body and mind. Mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress and improve mental health and wellbeing.
Originating in Asia over 2,500 years ago, meditation is a technique to develop the natural ability of the mind to stay more aware and compassionate of the present moment. Meditation transforms the mind through breathing techniques to develop concentration, clarity and wellbeing.
A mindful breath is a breath that you have mindfully focused on. You log a mindful breath by simply tapping your smart-phone at the point when your lungs are at their fullest of air. When the mind is busy, you may find that you can focus and tap on a few mindful breaths. As you practice mindfulness over several weeks, you’ll be able to tap a higher proportion of breaths mindfully and live more in the present moment.
